Dear Friends,

At Macaulay, we believe that every child deserves a chance to succeed and we remain true to this belief now more than ever. Throughout this unprecedented time, we are extremely grateful to our staff, providers, service users, donors, and partners and to our greater community for your unwavering support.

The Toronto Foundation’s 2020 Vital Signs “Fallout Report” documents the disproportionate impacts of COVID-19 on marginalized populations and the organizations that serve them. The pandemic has been devastating for already vulnerable communities and has a profound impact on health, safety, work, education and belonging. The data shows that people earning less than $30,000 annually were 5.3 times more likely to be affected by COVID-19. Racialized Canadians, younger Canadians and those with disabilities are struggling the most with making ends meet during this increasingly challenging time.

Over the past nine months, we have been working closely with our community, reaching out to those who are underserved and/or experiencing barriers to accessing support. Through in-person and virtual programming, we have continued to provide support and deliver essential services to the families we serve. Approximately 30% of the families we serve have incomes well below the low-income cutoff. Sixty percent of families are newcomers and more than 30% are children facing a significant challenge. We have worked hard to ensure there was no interruption to service delivery and that those at greatest risk, received the support they so desperately needed.

As this situation continues to evolve, so will Macaulay. We will continue to give children, and their families, the skills needed to succeed throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and in the future. With the holidays upon us, if you are interested in making a donation to help support out work and reach even more children and families, please click here or contact us 416-789-7441.

We want to take this opportunity to wish you and your loved ones a very happy holiday and all the best in 2021.

Sincerely,

Trevor McAlmont
Executive Director
