Dear Parents, Guardians and Members of our Community:

Today, the Province of Ontario signed a $13.2 billion childcare deal with the federal government.
Macaulay welcomes this new agreement and will be enrolling in the Universal childcare program, which promises to cut childcare fees by 50% by 2023 and move towards the $10 a day target.
This agreement will also focus on expansion of childcare spaces in the licensed childcare sector, with priority given to non-profit operators. Additionally, there will be a focus on wages for the childcare workforce with an increase in the minimum salary level of $18/hr towards a goal of a minimum $25/hr.

Highlights from the national childcare deal include:

  • Reduction of childcare fees through a four-step process to an average of $10 a day per child five years old and younger by September 2025.
  • Hiring new early childhood educators and support improved compensation for all Registered Early Childhood Educators working in licensed childcare.
  • A goal to create 86,000 childcare spaces, which includes more than 15,000 spaces already created since 2019.

Macaulay will continue to work with our Provincial and Federal governments to advocate for the early years sector and the rights of families and childcare workers. We thank you for your continued support and trust in our childcare program.

Sincerely,

Trevor McAlmont
Executive Director
