June 21, 2021

Dear parents/guardians and members of our community:

The Macaulay Child Development Centre remains committed to the health, safety, and well-being of the families we serve, as well as our staff, providers, volunteers, and our greater community. With cases of Covid-19 gradually declining across the province and vaccination rates on the rise, Ontario officially entered Step One of the Roadmap to Reopen on Friday, June 11, 2021. In light of this new announcement, we wanted to take this opportunity to connect with you and to keep you updated on how this impacts our services and how we continue to support our community throughout this time.

Update on Service Delivery

Licensed Child Care
Following the Premier’s announcement that elementary schools across the Province will remain closed for in-person learning for the remainder of the 2020/2021 school year, Macaulay’s Licensed Child Care program will continue to operate as follows:

  • Licensed Child Care Centres: All full-time Macaulay programs for children 0 to 4 years (infants, toddlers, and preschoolers) continue as normal.  This includes full-time childcare programs located in schools.
  • Licensed Home Child Care: Macaulay’s Licensed Home Child Care Program continues to operate as normal.

Emergency Child Care
Macaulay Licensed Child Care Programs have been approved by the City of Toronto Children’s Services to offer emergency childcare for kindergarten and school-age children of essential workers during the closure of in-person learning for all publicly funded elementary schools in Toronto. This includes all Macaulay childcare centres located in schools, as well as our Home Child Care program. Emergency care in licensed childcare centres will end on Tuesday, June 29, 2021, and on Wednesday, June 30, 2021, in licensed home child care.

Summer Child Care Programs
All Macaulay before and after childcare programs will return to regular service on Wednesday, June 30, 2021. This is also the start of our full-time summer program. During the summer program, enhanced health and safety measures outlined by Toronto Public Health will continue to be implemented.

Community Programs
All Macaulay community programs and services have transitioned to a virtual platform. Programs and essential supports continue to be delivered through the use of video and tele-practice, web, and social media platforms. Select community programs will begin offering limited outdoor programming soon. Please visit our website regularly and follow us on Facebook and Instagram to access additional resources and information.

Health & Safety
Macaulay supports the Covid-19 vaccination program and encourages our staff, providers, volunteers, and service users to get the vaccine as soon as they are able to do so. We encourage everyone to help limit the spread of Covid-19 by following the latest health and safety protocols.
