June 7, 2021

Dear parents/guardians and members of our community:

The Macaulay Child Development Centre remains committed to the health, safety, and well-being of the families we serve, as well as our staff, providers, volunteers, and our greater community. With cases of Covid-19 gradually declining across Ontario and vaccination rates on the rise, the provincial stay-at-home order officially expired on June 2, 2021. Earlier this week, the Premier announced that Ontario will enter Step On of the Roadmap to Reopen beginning on Friday, June 11, 2021. In light of these new announcements, we wanted to take this opportunity to connect with you and to keep you updated on how this impacts our services and how we continue to support our community throughout this time.

Update on Service Delivery

Licensed Child Care

On Thursday, June 3, 2021, the Premier announced that elementary and secondary schools will remain closed for in-person instruction for the remainder of the school year. During this school closure, Macaulay programs will operate as follows:

  • Licensed Child Care Centres: All full-time Macaulay programs for children 0 to 4 years (infants, toddlers, and preschoolers) continue as normal.  This includes full-time childcare programs located in schools.
  • Licensed Home Child Care: Macaulay’s Licensed Home Child Care Program continues to operate as normal.

Emergency Child Care

Macaulay Licensed Child Care Programs have been approved by the City of Toronto Children’s Services to offer emergency childcare for kindergarten and school-age children of essential workers during the closure of in-person learning for all publicly funded elementary schools in Toronto. This includes all Macaulay childcare centres located in schools, as well as our Home Child Care program. Emergency child care will continue for the remainder of the 2020/2021 school year. For eligibility information and to register, please see our FAQ

Summer Child Care Programs

To date, there has been no confirmation on the reopening of kindergarten and school-age programs for the summer. Macaulay is working with the Toronto Community for Better Child Care to advocate for the reopening of these programs so that children can have the opportunity to participate in their childcare program this summer. If you would like to support our efforts, we have attached this template letter for community members to write to Steven Lecce, Phil Graham, and their elected officials to request swift action be taken to confirm and support summer child care programs.

Community Programs

All Macaulay community programs and services have transitioned to a virtual platform. Programs and essential supports continue to be delivered through the use of video and tele-practice, web, and social media platforms. At this time, Macaulay’s physical programs and services locations (excluding select child care programs) remain closed. Please visit our website regularly and follow us on Facebook and Instagram to access additional resources and information.

Health & Safety

Macaulay supports the Covid-19 vaccination program and encourages our staff, providers, volunteers, and service users to get the vaccine as soon as they are able to do so. We encourage everyone to help limit the spread of Covid-19 by following the latest health and safety protocols.
