Macaulay Licensed Child Care Programs have been approved by the City of Toronto Children’s Services and the Ontario Ministry of Education to offer emergency child care for kindergarten and school-age children of essential workers during the extended closure of in-person learning for all publicly funded elementary schools in Ontario from January 4 – February 10, 2021. This includes all Macaulay child care centres located in schools, as well as our Home Child Care program

Who is eligible to receive emergency child care?
Emergency child care services are reserved exclusively for children of essential service workers outlined by the eligibility list provided by the Province.
Additionally, the City of Toronto has determined the following municipal staff as essential to the delivery of core services:

  • Toronto Public Health
  • Long-Term Care
  • Shelter, Support and Housing Administration
  • Toronto Water: treatment, supply and distribution of safe drinking water; wastewater collection, pumping and treatment; storm water collection and management
  • Solid Waste: collection; transfer stations; haulage operations
  • TTC service delivery: bus, streetcar, subway and Wheel-Trans; infrastructure maintenance; transit control; and essential business functions to support continuity of operations

Confirmation will be completed verbally, checking against the approved eligibility list provided by the Province.

Is there a fee for emergency child care?
There is no cost to eligible families.

Where can I register for emergency child care at Macaulay?
If you are a new family to Macaulay and would like to register for a child care centre program, please complete the online application form by following the link below. After completing the registration, you will be contacted by a Macaulay staff member.

Macaulay child care centres and home child care programs will be open for regular hours of operation; care is not provided 24-hours a day.
All Macaulay child care programs will continue to follow existing Toronto Public Health COVID-19 Child Care Guidance requirements. This includes daily in person health screening of children attendees and following procedures should any children, parents or staff be exposed to COVID-19.
